Top 6 Easiest Indoor Plants to Grow

If you don’t have a green thumb, these are the easiest indoor plants to grow!

We all deserve to have a beautiful, relaxing, and green oasis, and if you’re not blessed with a garden, or if it’s too cold to leave your plants outside, I’m here to offer you the best tips you could get.

I grew up in a small apartment in Chicago and was always amazed by how beautiful nature is. I’ve always wanted to have a garden where I could take care of my beautiful flowers, feel the sun’s warm rays on my skin, and do gentle stretches between plants.

Since that wasn’t exactly possible, my mother made sure she would bring the outdoors in. She spent some time researching the perfect greenery, and one afternoon, she came home with five big pots of gorgeous plants. They made the entire living room feel like a modern jungle, where I could just relax and be present.

Nowadays, even if I’m lucky to have a tiny garden just outside my home, I know that there are people who want to create a stunning green oasis indoors. I’ve learned a couple of tips along the way, and I want to share with you everything my mother has taught me.

So, without further ado, these are some of the easiest indoor plants to grow (perfect for those with a brown thumb):

1. Sansevieria

Sansevieria, or snake plant, is one of the loveliest and easiest indoor plants to grow. Low-maintenance and earthy, this greenery will offer you beauty without asking for too much in return. It has big, semi-succulent leaves and water-storing rhizomes, so it can go days without being watered.

Moreover, it can easily adapt to different living conditions and easily fits into any space, thanks to its narrow growth habit. If you’re a forgetful plant keeper, say no more, because a lush green Sansevieria will look amazing even if you don’t respect its watering schedule.

However, if you put it outdoors or keep it in direct sun in the summer, it’s best to water it more frequently, but only once the soil is fully dry.

2. Prayer plant

I don’t know about you, but I believe that the prayer plant is one of the most gorgeous and easiest indoor plants to grow. Leave a comment below if you agree!

If you’re at the start of your gardening journey, this is a marvelous choice for you! These stunning leaf patterns put on a daily show, making them impossible not to love. Speaking of the leaves, they fold up at night and then open during the day, looking like hands in prayer.

Native to the tropical rainforests of Brazil, they don’t mind low light conditions, but they prefer a boost of humidity and frequent watering. Even if you have to be more mindful with the watering, compared to the snake plant, this one is just too pretty not to include in your greenery collection!

3. ZZ plant

Continuing with the easiest indoor plants to grow, let’s welcome the stunning ZZ plant to the club! Thanks to its adaptability to a wide range of indoor conditions, this strong one can tolerate low light without a problem.

What’s interesting about the ZZ plant is that it usually goes dormant over the colder months (while staying green and pretty) and should only be watered once the soil is completely dry or once every 4-6 weeks.

However, your plant will need more water, warm temperatures, and indirect light during spring and summer, so it can grow its lovely, lush green leaves.

Make sure you have plenty of vertical space because this one can reach up to 2-3 feet tall when fully mature. Its arched, upright stems are individual leaves that emerge straight from the ground, making the plant look like it’s putting on a show.

If you notice that the leaflets are turning yellow, it’s a sign that the soil may be too wet, so check its moisture and don’t water it until it has completely dried out.

4. Money tree

Do you want to bring some luck into your home without too much hassle? Then you need a money tree in your life. Not to mention, it is also one of the easiest indoor plants to grow. Going back to spirituality and abundance, this plant is known for fostering good luck and positive energy in its owners.

On top of its robust trunk, it displays rich, green leaves, which give it a tropical flair that will make your space look more vibrant, cozy, and inviting. If you don’t have a green thumb, you’ll be happy to hear that money trees can withstand low light levels and may go for extended periods without watering.

If you do want to water your green baby, make sure you allow the soil to dry up at least halfway. This plant will flourish in bright, indirect light, so get ready to receive all the abundance you were calling for!

5. Cactus

I’m sure you knew this one was going to be on the list, right? After all, we can’t talk about the easiest indoor plants to grow without mentioning cacti! Whether you’re an expert or not, there are plenty of cacti species to choose from.

Whatever type of cacti you like, you’re going to love having it in your home, because it’s incredibly easy to take care of it. Since they can store extra water, you don’t need to worry that your plant will die due to not giving it enough water. Speaking of that, this clever trick helps them flourish in severe desert conditions—something most other plants can’t do.

All you have to do to keep your cactus happy is to put it in a pot with at least one drainage hole. One of the easiest ways to help your cacti thrive is by making sure they get plenty of light and avoiding overly wet soil. These little plants love sunshine, so give them a bright spot to soak it all in!

6. Monstera

If you open Instagram and scroll through home decor accounts, you’ll likely spot one plant stealing the show: the beautiful monstera. The good news is that this gorgeous greenery is one of the easiest indoor plants to grow.

You can put it in your living room and watch it grow beautifully into a large piece of art. It’s so pretty, it will completely change the look of your entire home.

You should usually water your monstera when the soil is roughly 75% dry, but there won’t be any problems if you don’t respect the watering schedule. To make it grow even more fabulously, place it in bright, indirect light, such as near an east- or west-facing window. Take care of it and watch how dramatic it will become!
