If you want to brighten your living room, these are the tricks you should choose!
I’m a strong believer that plants can make everything better. They’re always the right choice to add a pop of color, fresh air, or a vibrant touch to your ambiance. There’s a plant for everyone, regardless of whether you have a green thumb or not. If you want to brighten your living room, you’re at the right place, because we have some great tips for you.
Just think about it: you spend a lot of time in your living room, either relaxing, drinking a delicious cup of coffee, having a snack, watching a movie, or catching up with your loved ones, so understandably, you want to make it as beautiful and cozy as possible. And that’s where plants come in handy! Are you ready to brighten your living room? Then let’s explore these top choices together:
1. Add a focal point
There’s nothing cozier and more inviting than a beautiful living room with a natural focal point that brings the essence of nature indoors. The good news is that you can easily use statement plants to achieve any look your heart desires.
If you were blessed with a large space, for example, fill those empty spots with some statement greenery, such as a bird of paradise or a bamboo plant. These ones won’t go unnoticed, and their beauty and warmth will quickly turn your space into a showstopper.
However, the plants we’ve previously mentioned will brighten your living room, but they’re not suitable for those with a brown thumb. There’s no need to worry though, because ZZ Plant and Sansevieria are amazing for beginners. They’re low maintenance, but they create a stunning visual effect.
Experts’ tip: Besides making your ambiance more welcoming, large plants can be a fantastic lifesaver. Since they’re planted in bigger pots, they can go longer between waterings compared to those in tinnier pots. In case you have a large plant and notice that it’s drying faster than normal, it might be time to repot it.
2. Layer, layer, layer
If you want to brighten your living room in a couple of minutes, give this tip a try! Layering your plants will add texture, color, and depth to any space, making it look magazine-worthy. Tinnier plants paired alongside larger pots, for example, can easily camouflage any electrical cords or storage space.
There are numerous vibrant options to choose from, depending on the color scheme of your ambiance. For instance, if your living room is on the neutral side, a stunning pop of color will make everything happier, which is why I recommend Bromeliad Aechmea Pink or a Dracaena Gold Star. Trust me, you’re going to love the result!
3. Add a dedicated shelf
Do you know how calming it is to wander around a botanical garden and have all those fabulous plants surround you with their beauty? You can replicate that look and feel in a matter of minutes.
All you need to do is choose a part of your room to have all of your natural buddies live together. Invest in a special shelf for plants and put all of them there. This simple design trick will elevate the look of your environment and bring a real sense of drama—a touch of perfection, don’t you think?
4. Across the wall
If you want to take it a step further, there are a couple of budget-friendly and amazing-looking decorated trellis you can mount to your wall. This will surely brighten your living room and make your space look like it’s coming straight from a home decor magazine.
You can get trellis made from different materials—my favorite one is bamboo—which allows your beautiful crawler plants to grow in a specific direction. This tip works great for many reasons, especially if you have bland white walls but don’t feel like painting them anytime soon.
5. In front of a mirror
To brighten your living room even more, add your favorite plants in front of a mirror. This will double the greenery and make your area more natural, breezy, and welcoming. Besides that, this tip also works if you’re not blessed with a huge room. Whether it’s a small or large mirror, a wall fixed, or one leaning against the wall, placing greenery in front of it will make everything seem bigger and more natural.
This visual trick makes it feel like there are more plants in the room, all while keeping the floor space clutter-free. As experts say, when there’s a will, there’s a why, and I couldn’t agree more!
6. DIY plant terrarium
A few years ago, when my partner and I visited his parents, we bought a beautiful medium-sized terrarium for his mother. It contained some small cacti, different greeneries, and, of course, drainage layers. She was so happy with it that she quickly added it to her plant display. She has a brown vintage door without glass that she repurposed as a plant shelf in the living room, and the terrarium sits proudly on the top shelf.
That gorgeous touch inspired me to build my own terrarium, and if you want to brighten your living room, I recommend you do so as well. It’s a simple and relaxing activity, and you can also involve other members of your family.
All you need is a glass container with no drainage holes, small crushed stones or some clean aquarium gravel, activated charcoal that you can easily find at a pet supply store or at a nursery, your favorite terrarium plants, sheet moss, and sterile potting mix. If you want to take it a step further and make your terrarium even prettier, add some decorative elements.
The results will be amazing, and if you want an in-depth tutorial, let us know in the comments below, and we’ll take care of it.
7. Hang them from the ceiling
You can brighten your living room even if you don’t have the space you want; you just have to be creative. Since you don’t have the square footage, we have to get creative and go up. You can easily achieve a laid-back bohemian look in your living room with just a ceiling hook and a colorful plant holder made of leather or macramé (or something similar).
This plant arrangement works well for any space, and it will brighten your living room, making you feel like you’re in a fancy hotel. However, you might need a step ladder to water your greenery each week, but it will pay off.
8. Around your TV unit
If you think of yourself as a stunning plant lady or gentleman, it’s likely that you already arrange plants around your TV—you have my full support here because I’ve been doing this since I first moved out of my parent’s home over 20 years ago.
But if you haven’t given it a shot yet, take this as a sign that the moment is right. Contrary to what its manufacturers claim, modern technology is always a little weighty. The TV in your living room is essentially a large black box that requires aesthetic enhancement. Adding lush green plants on either side of the TV set is a terrific method to balance things out and brighten your living room.
And if you spend too much time on the couch, looking at some lush green leaves will put you in a good mood, so there’s no reason why you shouldn’t try this tip!
