7 Stunning Tropical Plants for a Year-Round Staycation Vibe

Did you know tropical plants could make you feel like you’re on vacation?

Is there someone who wouldn’t like to feel like they’re on vacation every day? Just imagine you wake up feeling relaxed, enjoy the view and the things around you, drink your delicious coffee in your favorite mug, and feel peaceful, happy, and ready to take on the day. You don’t need to wait for a trip to enjoy yourself.

At least this is what I want to do. There was a time when I didn’t have enough financial resources to travel to the specific place I was so desperately trying to go to. I felt like every day was the same; I didn’t like how my home looked and was quite unhappy. That was the moment I decided to start romanticizing my life and make each day feel special. I began with a deep cleaning session, then I changed a few decor pieces and ended up adding some gorgeous tropical plants to my home. Besides purifying the air, they also added a stunning touch of nature and beauty to my space.

It might sound hard to believe, but for me, tropical plants scream vacation and free time, and simply looking at them and taking care of them weekly made my home more special. If you’re like me and would love to bring all the staycation vibes to you, you need to add these tropical plants to your home decor. Here are my favorite picks:

1. Bromeliad pineapple

There’s nothing that shouts “tropical staycation” like a pineapple bromeliad. This gorgeous plant is unique and produces lovely ornamental pineapple when you completely grow it indoors. The best part is that each plant will produce offspring that will eventually grow into mature, fruiting pineapple plants themselves.

This tropical plant is native to South America, and it prefers conditions that are similar to its natural habitat, meaning that it will flourish in indirect and bright sunlight provided by an east or west-facing window. Other than that, it needs as much humidity as possible.

Unfortunately, you can’t eat the pretty-looking pineapple this plant makes, but it’s too cute not to add to your collection. You’ll know your unedible fruit is mature when the outer skin turns soft and yellow and starts releasing a delicious fragrance.

…The next one is my top choice without a doubt!

2. Monstera

If someone were to ask me what my favorite tropical plant is, I would immediately say monstera. This huge, eye-catching greenery is all you need to bring the tropical rainforests of southern Mexico into your home. It loves indirect sunlight and will be its happiest when you give it an occasional morning mist.

While it’s low-maintenance, it can get pretty big in a short amount of time, so keep that in mind if you don’t have a lot of space. Other than that, you can easily train a plant to grow on a moss pole for an added point of interest. Trust me, you’ll quickly fall in love with its Swiss cheese-like leaves! Pure perfection!

…If you love the look of a monstera but aren’t ready for the upkeep of a real one, this artificial option is perfect! It’ll bring a cozy, welcoming vibe to your home without any of the maintenance. Check it out here!

3. Bird of paradise

A tropical plant native to South Africa, the bird of paradise is exactly what you need to create a staycation vibe. This perennial has striking, banana-like leaves and is a top choice among many plant parents.

It’s a terrific statement plant in any setting, growing up to 20 feet tall in the wild and usually just three to eight feet high indoors. Even though it has an impressive size, it doesn’t require much maintenance. During times of active growth, it just needs weekly watering and a sunny spot, so that’s pretty great.

4. Kimberly queen fern

Home decor experts say that ferns are a must-have for lush and natural-looking decor. If you want to bring all the staycation vibes into your space, the Kimberly queen fern is the perfect tropical plant.

Besides being one of the most low-maintenance species, its beautiful look will make you feel calm, refreshed, and happy. This plant can thrive in any level of indirect light, and its thick fronds can resist drying out.

Being native to Australia, it doesn’t mind hot weather, so you can also put it outside, on your balcony, porch, or covered patio, for an extra boost of greenery. Even though it prefers to be well watered, nothing will happen if you miss a watering.

If you want to make the most of this beautiful tropical plant, put it on your coffee table, on a lovely shelf along with your favorite books, or place it in a hanging pot near a bright window.

5. Bromeliad Aechmea pink

Did you know that the bright blooms of the Bromeliad Aechmea pink can last up to six months? This is amazing news for those who want to invest in a durable and natural decor piece. The gorgeous, vibrant pink flowers and silver-green leaves will offer a wonderful tropical flair to your space, so get ready to relax and drink your coffee in style.

Our tropical plant is native to Brazil, and if you go into the wild, you’ll notice it growing on the trees and absorbing nutrients through its leaves. To make your home prettier, all you have to do is place it in a soil-filled pot. Don’t forget that your beautiful Bromeliad Aechmea pink loves humidity and bright, indirect sunlight.

The most important part is that you should water Aechmeas at the center of the plant, keeping the “vase” full of water instead of watering the soil.

6. Chinese fan palm

If you’re looking for something dramatic and stunning at the same time, look no further, because the Chinese fan palm is exactly what you’re looking for! With its exquisite fronds that are similar to a folded paper fan, this tropical plant adds texture and color to any space.

Native to the tropical regions of Southern Asia, this plant is known for its broad, bold leaves and compact size, making it suitable for small spaces. It can easily resist drought, so it will still look amazing even if you miss a couple of waterings.

It doesn’t ask for much attention, but keep in mind that it grows slowly. However, once the plant is mature, you’ll enjoy watching its lush leaves every day. It’s just too pretty!

7. Bamboo palm

This tropical plant ranks 2 on my favorites list and I’m pretty sure you’re going to like it too. The fabulous bamboo palm has huge, dark green fronds, which will add a special flair to any space. It’s native to Mexico and Central America, which means that it can easily adapt to any environment and it doesn’t mind low-light conditions either.

If you want to be a plant parent to a lovely bamboo palm, make sure you place it in a well-lit corner and only water it when half the soil volume is dry. Trust me, this tropical plant is going to make your home a lot cozier and fresher!
